This page explains the scope, assumptions, formulas, evidence, and review process behind iGotTrip's editable budget presets.
What the presets include
Presets include accommodation, a sampled round-trip flight, food, local transport, activities, cafe spending, and a buffer. Shopping starts at zero as a user input. Visas and passports, insurance, roaming, medical costs, and unlisted personal purchases are excluded.
Baseline assumptions
Static pages assume two travelers, the route trip length, days minus one nights, one room, standard style for quick stats, and the destination display currency. Every planner input remains editable.
Generic template
Only ten destinations have destination-specific presets. Other selectable destinations use the editable _generic starting template, calculated as the exact median of those ten destinations; it is not destination-specific research.
Calculation formulas
Accommodation = per-night rate × max(days - 1, 0).
Food, transport, activities, and cafe = per-person daily rate × days × travelers.
Flight = round-trip sample × travelers.
Buffer = preset rate applied to subtotal.
The summary function derives per-person and per-day totals.
Presets are stored in USD and displayed in the selected or local currency.
Exchange rates
Evidence ranges are normalized to the same USD base for comparison, while notes retain original local-currency observations and conversion dates. Static rates are fallbacks; Frankfurter display conversion is cached for 24 hours when available.
Cost variation
Prices vary by date, season, origin, booking time, and traveler choices. Estimates are editable references, not quotes or guarantees.
Source selection
We prefer official authorities and operators, followed by named market samples with stated limitations. Third-party editorial evidence is not the only basis for every material category.
Review cadence
Every source and page shows its last-reviewed date. Records are rechecked before a material preset or release change, and the site makes no live-price guarantee.
